The short answer
BLS notes that respiratory therapists are required to be licensed in every state except Alaska. That's changing.
What passed
Alaska's HB 110 passed the Legislature in May 2026 and became law without the governor's signature on June 22, 2026, as Chapter 28, SLA 26. The act covers several health care topics, including licensure compacts, and relates to the practice of respiratory care, telehealth by respiratory care practitioners and the duties of the state's Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development.
What it means for respiratory therapists in Alaska
The state will set up respiratory care licensing. Dates and application steps come from the state, so watch the Department of Commerce's professional licensing pages and talk to your employer.
