Why schools use SHIFTit for clinical rotations
We source and confirm the clinical site, and hold the agreement
Students upload their own documents, so your coordinator approves instead of chases
Every requirement tracked per student, against that specific site's list
Sites set their own capacity and time slots, so units are not double-booked
One shared schedule across school, clinical site and student
Clinical sites are never charged to host students
What it costs
One flat fee. It does not change with the length of the rotation or the number of required hours.
At a typical 90-hour rotation that is $1.10 per clinical hour.
| Rotation length | Cost per clinical hour |
|---|---|
| 45 hours | $2.20 |
| 90 hours | $1.10 |
| 135 hours | $0.73 |
| 160 hours | $0.62 |
Clinical sites are never charged to host students.
The site controls how many students it takes
Capacity is set by the clinical site, not by us and not by the school:
- A maximum number of students per department
- The specific time slots it will accept students in
- Each department mapped to the disciplines it can host
That is why sites agree to host, and why units do not get double-booked.
What your school gets
Your own portal, where your coordinator can:
- Submit rotation requests for a cohort
- Track every student against that site's requirements
- Approve documents as students upload them
- View a schedule shared with the site and the students, and export it
- See invoices
- Message clinical sites and students in one place
Access is set up by SHIFTit. Accounts are not self-serve.
SHIFTit Clinical Rotations Mission
To revolutionize the management of clinical rotations by providing a purpose-built platform that facilitates real-time scheduling, easy access to placement sites, and comprehensive management tools for students and administrators.
Our goal is to reduce the administrative burden and increase the educational value of clinical rotations, making it easier for future healthcare professionals to gain the experience they need while schools are guaranteed placement of their students in a perfectly matched synergy.
We also strive to onboard students in a professional manner, allowing them to envision their future employment at the site where they trained, and to build a pipeline from the classroom to a career.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do nursing schools find clinical placement sites?
SHIFTit sources and confirms the clinical site on your behalf. You submit the cohort — discipline, required hours, dates, and number of students — and we secure the placement and hold the agreement. Your team is not emailing sites and waiting for a reply.
Who is responsible for collecting student compliance documents?
Students upload their own documents through the student portal. Every requirement is tracked per student against the specific clinical site's list, with a status on each one, so your coordinator approves documents instead of chasing and collecting them.
How long does it take to confirm a rotation site?
It depends on the discipline, the dates, and how much capacity exists in your region. Tell us about the cohort you are having the most trouble placing and we will come back with what we can source.
Can a clinical site hire a student after the rotation?
Yes, and it costs nothing. A site that wants to hire a student it hosted can do so directly. SHIFTit charges no placement fee, no conversion fee, and no buyout on those hires.
What does a clinical site have to pay?
Nothing. Clinical sites are not charged to host students. The site provides the capacity and the precepting it was already providing, and gets a portal, credential verification, and a scheduling calendar in return.
How does a clinical site control how many students it takes?
The site sets its own capacity: a maximum number of students per department, and the specific time slots it will accept students in. Each department is mapped to the clinical disciplines it can host, so units do not get double-booked.
Does the school get its own portal?
Yes. Schools submit rotation requests, track every student, approve documents, view a shared schedule, see invoices, and message clinical sites and students in one place. Access is set up by SHIFTit — accounts are not self-serve.
